OPPORTUNITIES
The Australian Poetry Centre is seeking poets interested in being a ‘poet-in-residence’ in a café in their capital city for six months. The deadline for applications for the Café Poet Program is Feb 20th, 2009. See application instructions on the Australian Poetry Centre website or call the office on (03) 9527 4063.
The 2009 WILDCARE Tasmania International Nature Writing Prize aims to encourage writers to explore the genre of Nature Writing in short story format of 2000 - 5000 words.
Nature Writing is defined as literary prose whose major inspiration and subject matter is the natural world, including its significance for humans and/or their interactions with it. Winning submissions are printed in WILDTIMES and ISLAND Magazine.
Submissions must be sent by mail to WILDCARE Inc c/- GPO Box 1751 Hobart, Tasmania Australia 7001, along with an entry form available from the website. Deadline 20 Feb, 2009.
Alan Marshall Short Story Award.
Nillumbik Shire Council invites writers from across Australia to enter this annual short story competition. Prizes: $2000 Open Section First Prize; $1000 Open Section Second Prize; for stories up to 2,500 words long. $400 Young Writers' Section Prize for stories up to 1,000 words for writers aged between 15 and 19 years.
